Personally I prefer to read in past tense but that could just be because I’m so used to it.

Oh yeah, I think past and present tense suit different kinds of stories and readers. For me it depends a bit on the tone and flow. I like past tense for a lot of things but I’ve been experimenting with present tense for fics with a quicker and purposefully disorientated pace.

Also it depends on my brain, past tense is my default but it also causes me to get more tripped up on conjugation and subsequently frustrated, but it works for some things and most fics and stories are written in it so it’s familiar

I keep telling myself to write in present tense more because it’s more freeing and easier but I’m so used to past tense I end up writing half the fic in it and am too lazy too go back and change
