alternately if it was one of jack’s men stabbing rhys then it would happen once they were a little closer, maybe have kissed or slept together once or twice. rhys is starting to trust him, but then gets stabbed by someone in jack’s retinue and feel so betrayed and stupid because of course, jack is a criminal, he never loved him, he just wanted his guard down so he could kill him
of course jack didn’t want that and his guy was acting on a misinterpretation of his order….but that makes the angst even better

either rhys gets stabbed in an alleyway (besides jacks club?) or one of jack’s men misinterprets a command and tries to kill him
if its in an alleyway i imagine rhys was snooping around kind of lightly but mostly just looking for jack. maybe he has a back entrance or something and rhys is trying to find a way in but gets caught or jumped and stabbed. the guy just leaves him there to bleed out and either breaks or takes his phone or other communicators so he cant get any help. and hes afraid and dying but too weak to do anything but drag himself a bit. maybe just manages to drag in front of the back door
rhys of course, is lucky and jack so happens to exit out that door not long after to see his detective crush bleeding all over the ground. and jack angry panics as he rushes rhys inside and gets wilhelm to call the mob doc and clear out the club goers while he tries to stop the bleeding
